Intermediate Obedience Classes

Goal: Is to develop your dogs ability to respond to commands from a distance, for a longer duration & with more distractions.

• Prerequisite: Completion of Puppy or Basic Obedience class - or - demonstrate appropriate skill level

Required items: 6 foot Lead, check chain collar and 20 foot training lead

Some areas that will be covered are:

• Review four Basic commands & leash handling
• Distance training
• Loose lead & off Lead work
• How to deal with normal behavior problems
• How to keep your dog in learning mode while surrounded by distractions
• Good games to play
• Learning how to teach your dog new tricks
• Test for Canine Good Citizenship Test

Most important thing to remember is that both the dog and handler have fun and enjoy the time together while they are training. You are encouraged to do 15 to 20 minutes a day of training on the homework that will be assigned after each class.

Each handler is to maintain control of his/her dog at all times. Desert Dogs Unleashed (DDU) will not tolerate any type of aggression with other dogs or people. If you believe there is a problem or a potential one, we can address this prior to the beginning of class. The handler is also expected to clean up any messes that might happen; cleaning supplies will be furnished by DDU.

In order to pass this class you will need to attend 7 of the 8 classes. Should you miss a class there are various ways to make it up, just let us know and we will be happy to make arrangements.
